Plant-Based Jack-o-Lantern Layered Dip

By Ramona Cruz-Peters of Fab Everyday

A spooky-themed 5-layer dip… but make it vegan! With all the great plant-based dairy substitutes out there, it’s really easy to adapt your favorite dips to be vegan. A great example is the 5-layer dip, with beans, guacamole, vegan sour cream, salsa, and vegan cheese. Today we’re sharing a super simple layered dip for spooky month! This vegan 5-layer dip is decorated like a jack-o-lantern to make it a frightfully festive recipe for your Halloween parties! It’s really easy to make and can be made with your favorite layered dip combinations (as long as the cheese layer is on top), so feel free to channel your inner Dr. Frankenstein and experiment away.

What you need to make this version of plant-based 5-layer dip:

How to assemble your vegan 5-layer dip

Start by spreading bean dip in the bottom of a round serving dish in an even layer. You can use a prepared vegan bean dip, or canned refried black or pinto beans.

Next, spread guacamole evenly over the bean dip.

In a small bowl, mix plant-based sour cream substitute with prepared vegan taco seasoning to taste.

Spread the seasoned sour cream mixture over the top of the guacamole.

Spread your favorite salsa over the top the sour cream.

Now we’re getting to the face of our jack-o-lantern. Sprinkle a layer of orange vegan shredded cheese substitute on top of the salsa. Make sure the cheese completely covers the other toppings.

Optional step: If you prefer your layered dip warm, you can heat the dip in the oven or under a broiler until the cheese is melted. The recipe works fine with the cheese unmelted, as well, so this is really about your personal preference.

Place two triangular blue corn or black bean chips on top of the cheese to look like jack-o-lantern eyes. Arrange sliced olives to look like a jack-o-lantern mouth.

Serve your vegan layered dip with the rest of the chips.

Super quick, easy to customize with your favorite ingredients, and fun and festive for Halloween! Here are the instructions. Enjoy, and have a safe, happy, and sustainable Halloween!
