Elderflower Rosé Spritzer
By Megan Kowalczyk of Blog Appétit
It’s officially cocktails on the deck weather here in Chicago and you never can go wrong with a classic spritzer recipe to get the summer celebrations started. This cocktail only requires a few simple ingredients, is light and refreshing - perfect for those hot summer days and best of all, has a fun, fancy garnish that makes you look like a professional bartender when serving when in reality it’s super easy to make ;)
Start by grabbing your cocktail glasses. I recommend some type of coupe or martini glass, a seamless wine glass will also work well. Set your glasses aside and first we’re going to make your garnish.
Using a very sharp knife, place your lemon horizontally on a cutting board and cut your lemon down the middle vertically into two halves. Then cut about 1/4” thick slices starting from the middle and working your way to the edges of the lemon so you get a bigger circle. Depending on your lemon size, you may get 2 or 3 slices per side. Then one at a time cut the middle of the slice out leaving you just the outer peel of the lemon. Slice one side of the peel to cut the circle and then gently twist the peel to create a curl to garnish the edge of the glass with. Set curls aside to use at the end.
Next, pour your liqueur and lemon juice into a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until well chilled. Using a strainer over top of shaker to prevent ice from falling in, pour the chilled mixture into your glasses. Top with the sparkling rosé and garnish with your lemon curl for the perfect backyard dinner party cocktail! Since this cocktail has a carbonated ingredient, it is best to make them right before serving. You can prep the lemon juice and liqueur before hand as well as the curls. I would suggest keeping the curls on a flat surface until serving so they hold their shape.
Cheers!
