Get Creative In The Kitchen This Fourth

The 4th of July is a meat-lover’s holiday for sure, with grills all over the country ready to sear steaks, burgers, brats, and other favorites for hordes of hungry patriots. But even with the smell of ribs in the air, let’s not forget the wealth of meatless alternatives that could replace or accent the usually carnivorous fare. Here are some of our favorite non-meat recipe ideas that will bring a blast of flavor to your holiday festivities.

Spicy Chickpea Burgers - Tired of the same old veggie burgers? Make your own, with a little extra kick courtesy of some sriracha mayo.

Carrot-Dogs - A simple and novel recipe, this has the additional advantage of being highly customizable. Top with whatever you like, from a classic ketchup and mustard to some fresh cabbage!

Red, White, and Blue Grilled Cheese - I love the idea of adding in extra flavors and colors to a normally bland-looking grilled cheese. This should go over especially well with picky younger eaters.

Cheesecake-Stuffed Strawberries - These adorable little snacks have tons of patriotic flair, with red strawberry, white cheesecake filling, and a blueberry on top.

Grilled Watermelon - Of all the things I was considering putting on my grill this weekend, watermelon (or any fruit for that matter) hadn’t really crossed my mind, but now that it has this recipe will definitely be making an appearance.

On holidays like this, people tend to indulge in a little more meat consumption than usual, but it’s also an opportunity to experiment with some new foods and new traditions, while also making your celebration more welcoming to the vegetarians and vegans in your life. Don’t be afraid to get creative and try something new!
