5 Tips To Help You Eat Less Meat This Fall

Would you like to start eating less meat but worried that it’ll be harder to do so now that the temperatures are getting cooler?

Admittedly, summer does make it seem super easy to reduce our meat intake because we often eat lighter meals and salads in abundance. However, what if I told you that it’s just as easy to reduce your meat intake at this time of year, too? It’s never the ‘wrong’ time of year to become a reducetarian. So let me show you why!

The Heartier, The Better

Hearty food is that which is comforting and full of nourishment. This would include stews, curries, and many of the classic slow cooker dishes. Contrary to popular belief, meatless and hearty meals actually go hand in hand. Which brings me onto my next point…

Eat Seasonally

Eating seasonally often helps people find a new appreciation for plant foods, because not only does it taste much better but it’s been found that seasonal food might be more nourishing, too. So if you weren’t a fan of a particular vegetable before… Perhaps you will be once it’s in season!

Try to make an effort to taste a new vegetable (that’s in season) each week (or every couple of weeks). The more plant foods you discover, the less meat you’ll feel the need to eat!

Try Plant-Based Meats

We all know that processed products should not be the main component of our diets, however, plant-based meats can really help if you’re in need of satisfying a meat-craving! Some individuals see plant-based meats as a transition product that they will eventually stop eating, whereas, others will incorporate them into their diet regardless of how long they have been reducetarian/vegan etc.

Embrace Herbs & Spices

Herbs and spices are an important part of meat-free cooking. They’re the magical ingredients that transform the flavor of a dish.

This might sound obvious, but you can simply take your favourite herb/spice blends that you use with meat, and use it to flavor a plant-based dish instead. You might be surprised that many herb/spice blends such as ‘chicken seasoning’ etc. are actually meat-free, which is great news for anyone looking to make their own meat substitutes.

Celebrate The Small Victories

Tracking your progress makes the challenge all the more exciting and motivating. Everyone likes to see that they’ve made progress, don’t they? If you’ve successfully reached a milestone (aka taken part in Meatless Monday for a whole month) then treat yourself to a tasty takeaway or make yourself a banquet of your favourite foods. Becoming a reducetarian should be fun, so celebrate whenever necessary!
